How to prevent tomato cracking

There are two stages of tomato fruit cracking, one is fruit cracking in young fruit stage and the other is fruit cracking in mature stage. The fruit cracking mentioned here refers to the fruit cracking at maturity. The cracking of tomato fruit at maturity has a great impact on the commercialization of tomato, which directly affects the income of vegetable farmers. There are many factors affecting fruit cracking, but the core reason for fruit cracking is that the aged tomato epidermis can not resist the strong expansion pressure from the inside of the fruit, so it is easy to form fruit cracking. Skin aging, that is, the lack of elasticity of the fruit pericarp, is generally caused by too high temperature and too strong light in the early and middle stages of fruit development. Therefore, the prevention of fruit cracking is carried out from the following aspects.

1. At the initial stage of fruit expansion: keep the soil moist, control the humidity in the shed, do not dry or wet, prevent strong light from directly irradiating the fruit and prevent peel aging. Color change and maturity period: avoid flood irrigation, maintain soil humidity, avoid excessive temperature difference in greenhouse, and avoid cold wind blowing directly on the fruit surface.

2. Calcium deficiency is very easy to cause tomato fruit cracking, so calcium supplementation is very important to prevent fruit cracking. When applying base fertilizer, calcium phosphate or calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer shall be used. Continuously spray 300 times of milk or soybean milk at seedling stage and plant growth stage. 0.1M calcium chloride solution and other compound micro fertilizers containing calcium can also be sprayed during fruit growth and development.

3. Use growth hormone. The application of growth hormone treatment can also reduce fruit cracking in the season when it is easy to crack or when planting varieties that are easy to crack.

① Add a little gibberellin to hormones such as 2,4-D or anti abscission during flower dot. Add 2 - 3 drops of gibberellin to each pot of medicine. At this time, gibberellin can promote growth, and it is easy to form empty fruit, but the slightly empty fruit is not easy to crack. Or when the fruit bean is large, spray it with indoleacetic acid (15ppm) or gibberellin (15ppm) once a week, or spray 27% high lipid membrane emulsion 80-100 times.

② It can be ripened with Ethephon during the color transition period. After using ethephon, the fruit content is in a decomposition stage, which can reduce the pressure of fruit expansion and reduce fruit cracking.

4. If fruit cracking is found during the mature color conversion period, it can be picked in advance and placed on the ridge to make it turn color slowly. Generally, it will not crack. The above preventive measures can greatly reduce tomato fruit cracking, improve the commodity rate of mature fruit and increase the income of vegetable farmers.
